SBCT, in partnership with the Falke Institute and partner hospitals, announces its robotic surgery certification course aimed specifically at thoracic surgeons. The course, which corresponds to the initial stage of certification, called theoretical-practical or pre-clinical, SBCT intends to democratize this technology, so that its associates can, at least, get to know it and evaluate its applications in their daily lives. It is composed of fundamental basic modules, specific modules for the specialty, simulator practice, commented videos and inanimate model practice, and works as a prerequisite for the surgeon to enter the surgical stage, when he will be assisted by a robotic surgery tutor. At the end of this course, if the surgeon presents the minimum performance required in all stages, he will receive the provisional qualification in robotic surgery in thoracic surgery, with a certificate issued by the SBCT, in addition to the possibility of advancing to the surgical stage, which allows the definitive qualification, with a certificate issued by the SBCT together with the AMB.

The training program is divided into 4 modules.
The first module is carried out individually with an online pre-course, and in a group, with online theoretical classes (8 hours) and edited surgeries (20 hours)
The second module is carried out individually and consists of training with a simulator in the respective hospitals. Total working hours: 20h
The third module is called “basic in-service”. It consists of practical training in the operating room, with review of all theoretical / practical knowledge. The student trains with the robot the placement of the portals, docking, triangulation, exchange of forceps, suturing in a model, among others. It will be carried out in the surgical centers of the respective hospitals. Total workload: 3 hours
The fourth and final module is the “Advanced Thoracic Inservice” ATTENTION: This module will be held at Santa Casa de Porto Alegre (Porto Alegre -RS), Mater Dei Hospital (Belo Horizonte – MG) or Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital (Curitiba – PR) ). Dates are yet to be defined. It consists of practical training in the operating room, with review of all theoretical / practical knowledge focused on thoracic surgery and under the mentorship of a proctor indicated by the SBCT. The student trains with the robot the placement of the portals, docking, triangulation, exchange of forceps, suturing in a model, among others. Total workload: 3 hours
The course follows the guidelines of CFM Resolution No. 2,311/2022, which establishes the criteria for training the surgeon in this type of procedure. Surgeons can still have the specific qualification of their areas provided by medical societies according to the regulations of each society.
